- Cut notches at either end of every board with a circular saw or handsaw if necessary. Make sure not to cut too deep or else it may splinter when pushed into place.
- Pre-drill pilot holes for screws using a drill bit slightly smaller than the size of screw head so that they don’t split as easily when being driven into place.
